Activator/Monobloc
At our office, we see a lot of patients between 7-10 years of age who have an underdeveloped lower jaw and a severe overjet, a condition commonly known as “buck teeth”. Dr. Philipp uses an appliance that was developed in Europe to help modify the growth of the jaw. This appliance, called an activator or monobloc, is generally worn at night while sleeping, and if used consistently, in approximately one year will enable the growth of the lower jaw to catch up with that of the upper. This growth will significantly improve the profile of the patient and will result in a more normal bite and a more prominent chin. When used in a developing child, this will reduce the possibility of jaw surgery later in life.
